Understanding The Research and Writing Practices of NextGen Students

As one of the co-editors of The New Digital Scholar: Exploring and Enriching the Research and Writing Practices of NextGen Students, I am so excited to be part of what has been labeled in our book as “a conversation long absent in professional circles,” the dialogue between library professionals and writing studies scholars. For too long, the typical interaction between college librarians and writing instructors has been limited to the one-shot library introduction session, a brief encounter in which a librarian would introduce scholarly databases and other resources to new college students enrolled in their first-year writing course. The New Digital Scholar is here!

I am extremely excited about this new book, which is superbly edited by Randall McClure and James P. Purdy.

The New Digital Scholar will be published March 13, but advance copies have already arrived in Medford NJ. I’ve been talking it up for months; of course, nobody cares what I say, and rightly so! — we’ve got to get educators, school administrators, and librarians (academic and public) to take notice and spread the word.

In fact, I’m convinced the potential readership is quite broad, but it’s a bit of a new target market for us and I’m concerned that we may miss the boat.

There’s quite a bit of info about the book here: http://books.infotoday.com/asist/New-Digital-Scholar.shtml

Anyone interested in reading The New Digital Scholar with an eye toward writing/posting a short review for Amazon,  B&N, Goodreads, or elsewhere need only drop me a line and I will get a gratis copy on its way to you — while our stock of promotional copies lasts. [PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR SNAILMAIL ADDRESS UNLESS YOU PREFER TO READ IT DIGITALLY]

Rob Colding and I will also appreciate any suggestions of influencers we might reach out to — people who are in a position to raise the book’s profile. (Maybe it’s you???)

Thanks in advance for input. And to editors Randall McClure and Jim Purdy and their stellar cast of contributors, congrats on a job well done!

Long live The New Digital Scholar!!!

Now in the Pipeline –The New Digital Scholar

I’m excited about this book, the brainchild of editors Randall McClure and Jim Purdy (with great support from ASIST series editor Sam Hastings). And I like the cover by one of ITI’s best designers, Lisa Conroy.

This title is just starting on its journey here. The ms has been accepted, but publication is many months off.

Please, be honest: what do you think of the whole package–title/subtitle and cover design? Do we have a winner here or is it just my imagination? (Does the presentation make you want to know more? Will anyone buy it?)

I’m away on vacation starting next week, but when I get back my intention is to start using the books blog to share this kind of early pipeline info–if you’re interested. (I want feedback!)

Wish me luck in the north woods.
